Studying tips the strategies of successful students

Part of doing what I do means that I get a lot of time to study successful people at the top of their game. One type that I really like to study is successful students that I can learn better studying techniques from. Lucky for me, being based in Oxford I have no shortage of students to study. Here are some tips that I have picked up over time. I hope that they will help you if you are studying at the moment.

1. Location, location, location... Find a place to study that won’t sap your concentration. For instance sitting in a bar with interesting people might not be the best place for you; however a nice quiet park or even a room at home could be your best bet!

2. Use Your Brains Habitual Side… If you decide to stick to a hefty amount of studying – it might look exciting in the first instance just how much you will cram in during the term, however it could lead to frustration when you realise that you are missing out on other things. Instead, just start off slowly and get into the habit of studying. This way it will be easier to achieve any goals that you sent yourself.

3. Gather People Around You That Will Help You… When I was studying I had friends from all walks of life that could help me with my studies. I got to know Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Hypnotherapists and a whole range of other therapists that would naturally allow me to pick their brains.

4. Those That Fail to Plan - Plan to Fail… Don’t plan to fail from the off shot. Plan so that you have time for studying, fun, friends, family and lovers. If it is important to you then schedule it so that you don’t miss out on it!

5. Get Good Quality Sleep… You can’t fight the inevitable and if you try to burn the candle at both ends then you will be heading for burnout! Make sure that you give yourself enough sleep each day and that you are eating well too.

6. Set the Standard… When you get round to doing your exams, you are not representing your college, your family or even your country. In fact when you are sat in the examination room you are representing the most important thing in the world – YOU! Raise your standards now in the way that you study and make use of your social life and you will gain some of the most important habits that will serve you throughout life.

Houston schools focus on magnet and early childhood programs

School systems across the country have just a couple of things on their plate: charter schools, budgets, magnet schools, pension plans, pre-K and dropout rates - to name a few. Houston Schools are no different, and Magnet and Early Childhood programs appear to be at the top of the list.

The cream of the Houston School system’s crop are the Gifted and Talented students. Currently, 25,000 students are identified as gifted and talented. Beginning next school year (’07-’08), students identified as such will all attend “Vanguard” programs. The programs themselves will not change, but the name will consolidate programs throughout Houston Schools. Houston Schools identify students for Vanguard programs by using an “identification matrix”. This includes test scores from the Stanford/Aprenza exam and the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test. Report-card points and teacher recommendations are also taken into account. Houston Schools’ students who have limited English proficiency, are enrolled in special education, have low socioeconomic status are also considered. Vanguard schools are continuously monitored to help ensure that high-quality; more-rigorous instruction is provided in all classrooms. Students are expected to score above grade-level on the Stanford test. In addition, any of Houston Schools’ high-school students who are enrolled in a Vanguard school are required to take a minimum of two advanced-academic courses (ex: Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or dual-credit). “I am excited about the improvements in the Vanguard programs,” said Superintendent of Houston Schools Abelardo Saavedra. “It means more students will benefit from the rigor and high expectations of the programs, and it helps in our efforts to create a college-bound culture.” The Houston Schools’ system has 20 Vanguard magnet schools that enroll gifted/talented students from all over the district. All students may apply to Vanguard schools, regardless of their sub districts, of which there are 10. Students who are zoned to a school that is a Vanguard magnet will automatically get to attend that school; they will no longer have their names put into the magnet lottery system.

Another program that Houston Schools Board of Education and Superintendent Saavedra are committed to expanding is the district’s Early Childhood programs. Early childhood education has been recognized as extremely important to future academic success. Houston Schools now offers prekindergarten to all students on a tuition basis, and some students can attend for free. To qualify for free PreK at Houston Schools, a student must meet one or more of the following criteria: unable to speak and comprehend the English language, economically disadvantaged, homeless, a child of an active-duty member of the armed forces, or a child of an armed-forces member who was injured, killed, or missing-in-action while serving on active duty. Beginning with the ’07-’08 school year, parents may enroll their four-year-old child (who turned four on or before September 1, 2007) in a full-day, 10-month program at participating Houston Schools for a state-set fee of $405 per month. 16 elementaries in the Houston Schools offer PreK, one of which is also a Montessori magnet.

Pre-requisites for Online Graphics Designing Degrees

There are no Pre-requisites for enrolling in any online graphics-designing course. Students can enroll in different levels of graphic design courses such as Bachelors graphic design degrees or Associate graphic design degrees, depending on their previous qualifications, experience and requirements.

Though not absolutely necessary, it would be an advantage for students to have some kind of software that is graphics-related such as Photoshop or Paintshop Pro that will help them create project assignments more easily.

Tampa schools take safety seriously

Everyone in any school system has a desire to keep kids safe. Parents, teachers, administrators, and school board members and employees work together to ensure the safety of students. Parents and schools alike rely on each other to educate their students on safety rules as appropriate to the age of the children. Tampa Schools are highly conscious of the need to keep their students safe, and have plans in place which do so. Two such plans in Tampa Schools are the Life Threatening Allergy (LTA) Responsibility Commitment, and the Jessica Lunsford Act.

The Life Threatening Allergy Commitment is in place to save children’s lives. Millions of children throughout the country suffer from life threatening allergies, and Tampa Schools are ready to deal with any situation that may arise. All members of the district of Tampa Schools have responsibilities to keep kids safe, including, but not limited to the students themselves, parents, and all Student Nutrition Services employees. Effective September 1, 2005, changes in legislation under the Jessica Lunsford Act (a law enacted after the abduction and murder of Jessica Lunsford) now require all Tampa Schools contractors, subcontractors, and their employees to undergo a Level II background screening. This screening consists of an FDLE/FBI search. If a Tampa Schools contractor or their employees or subcontractors and their employees will be at any of Tampa Schools when students are present, have direct contact with students, or have access to or control of school funds, they will be required, as mandated by Florida State Law to undergo this screening.

If the contractor or subcontractors have no personnel who meet any of the three criteria, the law does not apply and no action is necessary. The fingerprints must be kept current and are required to be updated every five years. Any break in service to Tampa Schools will require individuals to be re-screened at their cost. Outside agencies’ reports will not be accepted. Prior to being fingerprinted, each individual will be required to disclose any previous criminal history on the Criminal Record Information form. This document must be received and cleared by the Tampa Schools’ Office of Professional Standards before being fingerprinted. All individuals will be required to meet the background qualification guidelines for contractors before being considered eligible for Tampa Schools site access.

After eligibility is assessed, notification of such will be sent to the contractor, along with the clearance for his or her employee(s) to report to Fingerprinting. The potential Tampa Schools contractor will receive a document that indicates the employee has been fingerprinted and is now considered an approved contractor/employee once the district receives the fingerprint return from FDLE/FBI. This usually takes 24 to 48 hours. Additionally, contractors will be mailed ID badges for their employees that must be worn at all times while present at any Tampa Schools campus. It is obvious that the district of Tampa Schools is highly aware of the necessity of keeping its students safe.
