In defense of impotent men everywhere

"Wanted: Clear-thinking male. Attractive, successful 35-year-old woman seeks man for good times, days out, nights in, companionship. Must be intelligent and impotent."

On October 7, 1999 a book (and later, movie) by Gaby Hauptmann entitled "Suche impotenten Mann fьrs Leben" (In Search of an Impotent Man) came out with an interesting premise: maybe the perfect man is an impotent man. At least that's what the protagonist of the novel, Carmen, believes. The sexy, successful thirtysomething real estate maven is tired of being ogled, pawed, and cheated on by the men in her life. By removing the sexual aspect of the relationship, it could leave room for a caring, monogamous relationship. So with the help of her friends Elvira and Laura, Carmen embarks on a crazy quest to find a sensitive, intelligent man with a good sense of humor...but he must be impotent. After posting a personal ad online, Carmen eventually meets the impotent man of her dreams: David, a handsome architect with California surfer-boy looks. But when she finally gets what she thought she wanted, Carmen realizes that she wants to express her love for David in a physical manner. Laura tells Carmen,"You wanted an impotent man, and you've got the impotent man of your dreams and now you want to turn him into a potent superman."

While I wasn't very impressed with the movie, it did make me think---in real life, how can an impotent man find a partner in the sex-crazed world we live in?

Impotence, or erectile dysfunction, is a condition characterized by the repeated inability to obtain or maintain an erection. Erections are managed by two different mechanisms, the reflex and the psychogenic erection. Reflex erections are achieved by directly touching male shaft. Psychogenic erections are achieved by erotic or emotional stimuli. Erectile dysfunction can be caused by psychological issues, stress, alcohol abuse, smoking, hormonal deficiency, or diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular disease. While there are no formal tests being done to specifically diagnose it, several tests are helpful in determining if there is an underlying medical or psychological condition causing it. When the cause is determined, the proper course of treatment will then be prescribed. Patients will have the option to take either testosterone injections, oral prescriptions, direct injections to the shaft, vacuum pumps, surgery, or in cases of psychological issues, counseling. Apart from those there are other, more unconventional treatments available, like herbal medicine, acupuncture, or experimental medicine. However, since the brain controls the libido, the placebo effect cannot be dismissed as a possible cause for the treatment's efficacy.

It is unfortunate that men view sex and the ability to obtain an erection as an integral part of their masculinity. Thus, erectile dysfunction will cause the sufferer to feel performance anxiety every time he has sex, and the anxiety will further affect his ability to maintain the erection. Its up to their partners to ensure that their sexual relationship remains mutually satisfying regardless of the condition. One key aspect to this is improving communication between the couple. A spirit of fun and openness will go a long way to ensure that the relationship remains healthy during the toughest times.

Joint discomfort and flexible thinking

For millions of Americans, joint pain means more than just discomfort. It can prevent sufferers from doing such common, everyday activities as opening a jar and typing on a keyboard; in extreme cases, even walking becomes difficult and painful. When the joints ache, it doesn't matter if you're 35 or 65, it's hard to be at your best.

Fortunately, it's possible to promote joint comfort and movement by nourishing and protecting your joints. Here are a few tips:

• Daily stretches of each joint--as far as each will go without pain--will help you maintain freedom of motion.

• Keep active to stay active. Strength conditioning and low-impact exercises such as bicycling help maintain and build your mobility.

• Be careful with your hands. Avoid positions that place too much stress on the fingers, such as those that push your other fingers toward your little finger. Finger motions should be in the direction of your thumb whenever possible. And avoid making a tight fist.

• Get a grip. Be aware of how you hold things and the stress you place on your joints when gripping them. Try holding objects in your open palms instead.

• Maintain an optimal weight. When you rid yourself of excess weight, you reduce the pressure on your joints. This means less discomfort, as well as reduced risk for injury.

• Supplement your diet. The combination of glucosamine and chondroitin is frequently recommended to help reduce pain and discomfort. Move Free® Advanced combines these supplements with Uniflex™ and Joint Fluid™. This new formulation is two times more effective in promoting joint comfort and usually works in as little as one to two weeks.

Prevention and first aid treatment for heatstroke

Don’t we just love those long, hot summer days in the sun? Keep in mind, however, that the high temperatures and excessive humidity can pose dangers. One of the dangers to be aware of is that of heatstroke. Heatstroke occurs as a result long, extreme exposure to the sun. When a person does not sweat enough to lower body temperature core temperature rises quickly and heatstroke occurs.

The first aid tips in this article in no way precludes immediate medical attention. Heatstroke can be extremely damaging to you health. It progresses very quickly and is life threatening. While there are first aid measures that can be taken, heatstroke is a medical emergency. Time is crucial and help should be summoned immediately.

Infants and the elderly are among the group at high risk for heatstroke. Also vulnerable are the obese, alcoholics, persons taking certain medications, or those with cardiovascular disease.

Another group that may be at risk is the summer athlete. As with any prolonged physical activity, summer sports can be potentially dangerous. An excellent source of information on heat stroke and how it relates to summer sports can be found at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute online. At

gssiweb. com/reflib/refs/597/SSE86.cfm? pid=96 there is an comprehensive article about prevention and treatment of heatstoke in summer sports.

Some risk factors for heat stroke include dehydration. alcohol use, cardiovascular disease, and medications.

The important thing to remember is that when high temperatures and humidity are present conditions are right for heat stroke. There are some preventive measures you should take if you are going to be in the heat for extensive hours. This is especially necessary if you are planning prolonged physical activity.

Have plenty of water and/or sports drinks on hand to prevent dehydration. Wear clothing that allows you to sweat and will prevent overheating. Heat stroke results from the body’s inability to sweat and keep itself cool. Take breaks and sit in a shaded area to cool down.

Some early warning signs of heatstroke may include a rapid rise in body temperature (104° F or higher), irritability, confusion, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, hot, dry red skin, hallucinations, and rapid heart beat. There may even be be loss of consciousness.

If you suspect someone has heat stroke take action quickly. Have someone call 911 for help. Get the person out of the sun into a shaded or air-conditioned area.

If possible immerse the person in a tub of ice water, or spray them with a garden hose. If nothing else wrap them in cool sheets. Whatever means you have, the objective is to cool them down as quickly as possibly. Monitor them closely. Cool the person until their body temperature drops to 101-102°F.

Move quickly, if not treated, heat stroke can be fatal in with-in the hour. If medical assistance does not arrive after you have cooled them down, call a hospital emergency room for further advice.

In conclusion, when enjoying the intense heat and humidity of summer remember to wear lightweight, breatheable clothing. Keep plenty of water and sports drinks on hand. Schedule heavy physical activity for cooler hours of the day. Acclimate yourself to the sun and heat by spending short times in the sun at first. With these few steps in mind may you all have a wonderful summer whenever it comes to your part of the globe.

Keeping sexual relationships healthy and safe

Getting involved in relationships with the opposite sex is part of growing up. Teenage girls and boys tend to think about what it means to be involved in a sexual relationship. There are many things to be taken into consideration before one should decide to have sex. There is the issue of morality which can make one feel guilty about premarital sex. Such guilt can play a major role in affecting one's emotional and psychological well-being, which usually leads to anxiety and depression. Health concerns are also on top of the agenda whenever a person decides to engage in a serious, intimate relationship. Sexual health is an important matter to think about since it is no longer safe to engage in unprotected sex. One must be aware that sexual relationships can expose people to the risk of getting sexually transmitted diseases (STD). No one can tell if a person is infected with STD. Even healthy-looking people can have the disease without them knowing it. Be sure that you and your partner are protected before engaging in any sexual activity. Unwanted pregnancy is also another consequence of sexual relationships which young people should think about. Many young people's future have been ruined by getting pregnant even when they are not yet emotionally and psychologically ready for the responsibility that teenage pregnancy entails. Even if you don't get pregnant or infected by STD, consider how you will feel if the relationship breaks up.

Many young people are not comfortable talking to their parents about this situation. It is important that you have a trusted adult or health care provider with whom you can discuss all your concerns and worries. Times like these can be very confusing for most young people and having someone to talk to would do wonders to gain more clarity and objective advice about sexuality.

Young people who make the decision to engage in any sexual activity should learn how to protect themselves aginst STD and prevent unwanted pregnancy. For contraception, there are various products out in the market that are effective in preventing pregnancy. Costs, methods of use, and level of protection against STD vary depending on the contraceptive.

There are two popular types of contraception, namely: the use of birth control pills and the condom. Both contraceptives can protect against pregnancy and STD. Males use some types of contraception that are usually different from what females normally use. It is good to know all about the different types of female and male contraceptions if you are into a sexual relationship. Together, the involved partners should figure out the best choice for the two of them. The type of contraception can have an effect on the health of both people in the relationship. Only females can get pregnant, but both males and females can get STD. Sexual intercourse always increase the risk for unwanted pregnancy and STD. Practicing safe sex with only one partner who is uninfected and has no other sexual partners can greatly lower such risk.

Birth control pills are small contraceptive tablets that usually contain two types of synthetic female hormones, the progestin and estrogen. This is called the "combination oral contraceptive". Estrogen and progesterone are produced by the ovaries. These hormones prevent pregnancy by suppressing the pituitary gland, which stops the development and the release of the egg in the ovary, called ovulation. The progestin hormone also helps to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg and changes the lining of the uterus. Birth control pills contain only one hormone called progestin and considered to be the "mini-Pill." This type of contraceptive works by suppressing ovulation and helping to prevent the male's sperm from reaching the egg.

The combination pill is slightly more effective than the progestin-only pill. But there are some people whose bodies don't react well to the estrogen in the combined pill. It is better that they take the progestin-only pill to avoid any complications from side effects. The birth control pill is highly effective if you take the pill exactly as directed by your health care provider. The pill is to be taken once a day, at the same time everyday. Be sure to have back-up contraception such as condoms during the remainder of the pill cycle when diarrhea or vomiting occur, or when you are taking some other medication that could change the effectiveness of the birth control pills.

Aside from preventing unwanted pregnancy, birth control pills have other medical benefits, such as easing menstrual cramps, regulating the menstrual cycle, reducing the amount and length of menstrual bleeding.

Having a sexual relationship entails great responsibility, not only to yourself, but to your partner as well. Always remember to engage in safe sex.

5 reasons you can get pregnant while on birth control

Most women rely on popular contraception methods like birth control pills and condoms to prevent unplanned pregnancies. Although the Pill and most common forms of contraception used by men and women are highly reliable in preventing pregnancies, there is still the possibility of getting pregnant while on birth control albeit being very minimal. Below are five reasons that may cause pregnancies while on birth control:

Improper use of chosen contraception method

Most contraception and birth control methods are almost a hundred percent pregnancy-proof. Human error plays a large part why unplanned pregnancies occur among people practicing birth control.

One such example is the improper use of the Pill. The Pill must be taken at exactly the same time everyday. Forgetting or being late in taking a scheduled Pill intake and having unprotected sex can cause a pregnancy. Also, since the Pill is taken in cycles, a disruption in the cycle caused by missed birth control pills can be tricky to correct and cause an unplanned pregnancy without a backup or alternative form of birth control.

Condoms are also prone to misuse. Not taking the air out of the condom before putting it on can cause it to burst due the friction created by the intercourse. Also, using a condom that does not fit well can cause it to burst or slide and spill the semen during intercourse.

Diaphragms, cervical caps, and IUDs, on the other hand, need to be checked at least once a month for proper positioning. Misalignment or improper coverage can provide little pathways for the sperm to reach the egg and start the conception process.

Inconsistent usage of contraception methods

Inconsistency in the use of contraception methods also contribute to the number of unplanned pregnancies that occur while on birth control. Missed birth control pills or having unprotected sex without condoms “just this one time,” is enough to cause a pregnancy. Since sperm can live inside the woman's reproductive system for days, having just one unprotected encounter is enough to cause a pregnancy even if the succeeding sexual intercourse made use of contraceptives.

Other antibiotic medications

Taking antibiotic medications have been found to affect and interfere with the efficacy of birth control pills. Antibiotic medications can decrease the levels of steriod plasma concentrations in the pills which can drastically alter their effects. If pills are taken along with antibiotic medication, it is advised that women and their partners use backup birth control methods to augment the decreased efficacy of the pills. Backup contraceptives can come in the form of sperm gels, creams, and condoms.

Broken condoms and other barrier methods

Breakage is the prime cause of failure for barrier methods of contraception. Broken condoms and other barrier methods provide a way for the sperm to escape and reach the egg. Condoms are usually broken due to the increased friction and pressure during intercourse. Using the right-sized condoms and proper latex-safe lubricants can help minimize condom ruptures. Other barrier methods can benefit from monthly checkups to assess and maintain the right fit.

Believing there is a safe time for unprotected sex

There is never a safe time for unprotected sex. Studies have shown that while most women get pregnant during their mid-cycle or fertile days, some also get pregnant on days that normally considered as non-fertile. As such, it is advised that protection should always be used whenever one has sex to prevent unplanned pregnancies.

Flavoring with organic oils to better living

Flavoring with organic oils is a better way of living healthy. When you think healthy, you must think macrobiotic, or natural. Natural gives you the whole amount of healthy product that you need. You have untreated products that cause less harm than those items created by man.

We all enjoy flavoring our foods. Most of us will use non-organic hot sauces, unhealthy oils, saturated fats, and other unhealthy products to season our foods. This process leads to common health problems because these people are not using organic flavoring to better their health.

What you don't know is that black pepper alone plays a role in colon cancer. Black coffee plays another role, as well as other common seasonings and oils.

For this reason, you want to reform your eating habits to start living a healthier life by thinking organic. One of the best starting points is your oils. What kind of oils do you use? Vegetable oils while claiming to be healthy organic product have a degree of unsaturated and saturated fats that could lead to high blood pressure.

Therefore, consider truffle oils.

Truffle organic oils will add flavor to any garden, chef salads as well as other foods. Truffle organic oils will provide you with that scrumptious taste that you enjoy. Just add a little dash of truffle organic oils to freshen your green salad, chef salad, soups, meats, or even add it to gravy and sauces to add that extra flavor to your dish.

Regardless of what type of dish you are serving, truffle organic oils can improve the taste of any meal or foodstuff. The fine organic oils provide delicious flavors.

Truffle oils were popularly used in the Mediterranean areas, yet these days more and more common folks are finding that the excellent flavors of truffle oils are worth trying in modern days.

Many of the top chiefs around the globe will flavor their gourmet meals with truffle macrobiotic oils. The organic oils add rich flavors to the chefs' delicacies.

These black and white oils have a high quality flavoring scheme of olive organic oils that have been infused with the flavor of white or black organic truffles are known as truffle oils.

The earthly, organic and robust flavored oils are exploited sparingly to give a burst of flavor to a wide assortment of foodstuff. By sprinkling a small dash, it will improve the taste of any meal or foodstuff you prepare. The fine, macrobiotic oils are drizzled, or sprinkles on asparagus, chef salads, pasta, garden salads, meats, potatoes, potato salads, pizzas, macaroni salads, soups, and on any other dish you may cook that you intend to add flavoring.

Why most people with agoraphobia take a year or more to start recovery

:
Understanding agoraphobia is the first step toward recovery. However, the average person with agoraphobia takes at least one full year to get diagnosed and even longer to learn enough about agoraphobia to start recovering.

Here are four reasons why:

1) Most people don't know what is wrong with them at first. The symptoms of agoraphobia, especially during panic attacks, feel like those of a physical illness. For example, when you are hyperventilating it is easy to suspect something is wrong with your lungs. When your heart is racing it is easy to think something is wrong with your heart. When you are sick at your stomach day after day it is easy to think something is wrong with your digestive system. Plus, one symptom of agoraphobia is to "scan" your body for physical symptoms and worry about every little twinge as if it may be a major life-threatening illness.

2) Many doctors don’t know how to diagnose agoraphobia. People with agoraphobia commonly visit a succession of doctors trying to find a diagnosis. Most doctors will listen to physical complaints and run tests. They will report that the tests are negative, but often fail to suggest the presence of agoraphobia due to a lack of training. Doctors who can tell that your symptoms are caused by a panic attack may still not be able to tell what type of anxiety disorder you have or provide information about it.

3) Most people go through a period of denial. If finally faced with a diagnosis of a psychological disorder like agoraphobia, the human reaction is to throw up defenses and deny it. Most of us don’t think of ourselves as the type of person who would have a "mental problem" or "psychological disorder." Psychological problems carry a stigma in society that physical illnesses and injuries do not.

The average person tends to consider a psychological disorder as personal weakness or lack of will power. People are more likely to treat a psychological disorder like agoraphobia as your fault than they would in the case of a physical illness or injury. If you were diagnosed with cancer, no one would stand over your bed during chemotherapy and question your will power, work ethic, or desire to go to work or school. But try having agoraphobia. People will do exactly that. Since no one wants to be viewed that way, it is hard for most people to admit to anyone they have agoraphobia.

4) Most people are reluctant to seek treatment for a psychological disorder because of the stigma. Even people who are able to admit to themselves that they have a psychological disorder might still have trouble admitting it to anyone else. It’s hard enough to try to explain irrational fear and panic attacks to your friends and family, and even harder to seek out professional help.

A word to the wise - the best course of action to take if you start experiencing panic attacks or the symptoms of agoraphobia is:

- See a doctor to rule out medical problems.
- Consult a mental health professional to get a diagnosis and/or begin treatment.
- Learn everything you can about your disorder.

Knowledge is the first step to recovery and the sooner you get started on your recovery from agoraphobia the faster it will be.

On the flip side, the longer it takes you to get diagnosed and admit that you have a disorder - the more agoraphobia has a chance to take root, and the more difficult your recovery may be.

If you suspect that you or someone you know might have agoraphobia, don’t take a year to start learning everything you can about it. Start today. You can learn more by reading or asking questions on The Agoraphobia Resource Center website at: agoraphobia. ws

Guidelines on eating right food to keep you fit

Nowadays, there is no control or guidelines on eating right food. Most people are attracted to delicious Burgers with lot of meat, or else they are used to eating Pizza or cheese or just meat or some thing else. Well, there are certain guidelines that help a person to follow a regime and have a good healthy eating habit.

There is always a question of what kind of food is better than others or different than others? Well vitamins, minerals, fats, soluble elements are all important and part of food. Vitamins usually can be used as a supplement and actually it is the best to remain healthy, cooling low fat meals helps.

There are four main food groups that often you see a health expert or nutritionists talk about when they are talking about balanced diet. With the different groups of food, there are serving amounts for adult and for children as well.

With meat, fist, poultry and beans there should be 2-3 servings a day. This group comes under the group of Protein and it’s a great source for that. Cooked beans are good for health because they are low in fat. Some of these foods can include, hamburger, eggs, beans, chicken, fish and peanut butter.

Dairy is important for calcium and protein. You can choose the low fat dairy from the store. There should be at least around 2-4 servings of dairy, it should include, cheese, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese and anything that contains milk.

Fruits and Vegetables are so important and they are low in fat and calories. They are not only great source of vitamins, potassium, fiber and carbohydrate energy but they are very nutritious for health. Orange or yellow vegetables contain Vitamin A. All citrus fruits including lemon contain Vitamin C. It is vital to have 2-4 servings of each. These include juices and all the vegetables and fruits either cooked or raw.

Grains are known as complex carbohydrates they provide vitamin B and fiber which are great source of energy. You can have 6-8 servings of this it includes, pancakes and pasta, bread, rice and cereals.

Fats and oils have to be used as low as possible. This includes oils, butter, sour cream, soda, candy and anything that has lots of calories. Fats and oils have to be really balanced to give you a healthy diet. Most people go for fat and oils rather than the other food which is equally important for the diet.

It is said under the new food group it should be any 2 fruits in a day, with 2 kinds of grains, 3 vegetables and 4 legumes. Legumes are beans, peas or lentils; these are really good for calcium, zinc, protein and B vitamins. The new food group can be integrated with total of 53 grams of fat in a day and total of 24 grams of sugar in a day that comes to eating 2 servings of Meat, fish and poultry.

Teeth - your options with dentists and orthodontists

Good teeth, or good dentures are essential for comfortable speech and eating. Lots of people have come to assume that bright white teeth are the only good teeth - Not so. Teeth are naturally off-white to cream. You can spot an American abroad by their falsely white teeth.

Children's milk teeth are replaced by their adult teeth from about 8 years old. The final adult teeth, the wisdom teeth, may appear 10 years later, or may only partially erupt from their gums. Good teeth habits need to start early. These basically, include brushing teeth, cutting down on sweet foods and visiting the dentist regularly.

Dentist's visits are no longer the source of fear for children that they were for their parents or grandparents. Dentists are generally pleasant, if over-paid, professionals. They try their hardest to make their surgery pleasant and relaxing, especially for children.

A large percentage of 11 year old children already have fillings in their teeth. These fillings have a life of 5-10 years, so these individuals will be visiting the dentist regularly for life. Some children have no fillings whatsoever, and this is not because their parents are any more successful in teaching dental hygiene. My own daughter is 19, she eats chocolate and sweets like there is no tomorrow, has thin enamel on her back teeth, cleans her teeth somewhat minimally once a day and she still has no fillings! Just lucky. There’s no justice in this life!

The orthodontist and dental braces are feared by parents and children alike. The "Jaws" appearance of some braces leads children to fear name-calling and loss of opportunity with the opposite sex. Parents worry about the cost of all that metalwork.

There are many more ortho-dontal options than there ever were just a few years ago. Do your research, find out your options and do your best for your kids' long-term health.

Taking care of your horse

Horses are one of the most exciting pets to own and they make excellent companions. In fact, they are almost like people with their own personalities. However, taking care of your horse is a big responsibility and your horse must be cared for properly to keep it healthy and happy. To provide the appropriate level of care for your horse, you can imagine it as being a child of about 4 years old as this is about their level of mentality.

The first thing that you will need for your horse is a home. This may be a stable or a paddock. If you do not have somewhere large enough for your horse to live at your house, you may want to consider agistment or a place that rents out stables or land for horses to live. You will need to keep your horse’s home clean by removing his droppings daily for stables and weekly for pasture.

There are also many daily responsibilities that you will have as an owner. The first is feeding your horse. If you have it in a stable, you will need to feed it grains and chaff, as well as hay and make the stable comfortable for it by providing sawdust or hay for bedding. Horses also need large amounts of fresh clean drinking water. You will need to check the water you provide for your horse regularly during the day to make sure it has plenty and has not tipped it over or drank it all.

Horses also need to have regular exercise and plenty of love and attention. Make the time with your horse enjoyable by giving it a good brushing before and after you ride it. Offer affection and yummy treats such as apples or sugar cubes to encourage it to think of you as his friend. By making friends with your horse, it will try even harder to please you.

Do not forget to clean under your horses feet with a hoof pick daily, as well as before and after you ride it to make sure that it has not picked up a rock in his hoof as this will make it lame. You will also need to have his hooves trimmed by a farrier every 8 weeks to keep its feet from getting cracked, sore or overgrown.

Your horse will need to be wormed regularly and just like people horses need to have regular checkups from a vet, even if they are not sick, to make sure that they are healthy. If you have any concerns about your horse or what to feed it or how often, your vet will also be able to help you.

During winter, you may need to provide a rug for your horse, especially if the winter months are particularly cold. Horses that are in stables will also need to have rugs for the night as they can not move around to keep warm.

As you have read, one of the most important things that you will need is time. The time needed to take care of your horse properly and train it to do the things that you want it to do. When you are able to be patient and gentle with your horse, it will be the best friend that you ever had.

Could generic viagra lure a wanted criminal

:

Members of the FBI who face the challenge of locating one of the criminals listed as being among the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted,” might want to study ways to make use of Generic Viagra. Perhaps they could circulate information about cheap generic Viagra or incredibly inexpensive Generic Cialis. They might then have luck with trapping a criminal who desired a way to improve his sexual performance.

Back in 1985, well before the appearance on drug store shelves of both Viagra and Cialis, the FBI sought a murderer, one who loved to jog and to lift weights. While living in California, that jogger and weightlifter had performed a very callous act. He had killed his son and two daughters.

In an effort to escape from the long arm of the law, that uncaring father traveled across the United States. Eventually, he found himself in a Pennsylvania county, York County.
Now the criminal’s movements did take him far from California, but they moved him into a County that was the home of Bob Hoffman, the founder of the York Barbell Company.

Bob Hoffman had earned the title “Father of World Weightlifting.” Hoffman had been given the title because he had directed his efforts towards the promotion of physical fitness. Between 1948 and 1964, Hoffman had been the coach of the U. S. weightlifting team.

After leaving that position, Hoffman put much of his energy into the affairs of York Barbell Company. Hoffman enjoyed business success, and he used some of his profits to support a cause that was dear to him. He offered financial support to the promotion of weightlifting and bodybuilding. In addition, he advocated for the benefits of nutritional supplements.

Recognized and respected as a philanthropist, Bob Hoffman received affirmations from many in the community. When Hoffman died, in 1985, the papers carried a long article about his life and his business dealings. That article mentioned the existence of the Hoffman Health Store.

Now the murderer from California happened to see the article about Hoffman’s passing. He made note of the fact that the Hoffman Health Store had been mentioned in that article. The murderer wanted to visit that store.

The murderer’s desire to become even healthier landed him in prison. When he got into a taxi and asked to go to the Hoffman Health Store, his behavior aroused the suspicions of the taxi driver. Taxi drivers across the U. S. had been given information about the FBI’s most wanted. The murderer stepped into a cab with a driver who linked the picture he had seen to the face then in his taxi.

The taxi driver contacted the FBI. The FBI learned that the murderer, Robert Henry Nicklaus, had chosen to get a room at the local YMCA. The agents waited quietly near that room. They caught Nicklaus when he returned from a shopping trip with a bag of groceries.

Maybe our present-day FBI agents could nab a criminal on the “Most Wanted” list as he returned to his residence, following a trip to the drug store. That criminal might return to his residence with a bottle of generic Viagra.

Bullous pemphigoid

The medical condition known as bullous pemphigoid is a rare autoimmune disease that results in the blistering on one’s skin and occurrence of lesions on an individual. Although this type of medical condition does not arise too often, it is important to relay some general information regarding this illness so that individuals afflicted with a disorder of this type may have something as a reference. The following paragraphs will provide some main points regarding the bullous pemphigoid disorder.

Who Is Affected By Bullous Pemphigoid?

Those who usually see incidents of bullous pemphigoid are normally individuals over the age of 40. It is important to note that although it tends to target those individuals in this age range it has been noted to affect individuals who are younger at times as well.

Symptoms of Bullous Pemphigoid

The main symptom one sees with the occurrence of bullous pemphigoid is skin lesions and blisters. These blisters tend to itch and are quite painful at times. The skin lesions are ones which can occur in many areas on the skin and do not stay within one general region.

Treatment of Bullous Pemphigoid

Although there is no outright cure for bullous pemphigoid there are various treatment methods which can be prescribed to help control the occurrence of bullous pemphigoid. The most frequently prescribed treatment method for containing and controlling the outbreaks of bullous pemphigoid is a corticosteroid treatment. There are a few different types of corticosteroid available for bullous pemphigoid treatment; however prednisone is the one which is prescribed most often for patients suffering from this condition.

Although bullous pemphigoid is a medical condition which can be irritating and troublesome, it is important to keep in mind that there are various ways in which individuals can attempt to control the occurrence of this rare condition.

Of head games and nips tucks

Of late, plastic surgery has experienced an incredible boom in the amount of business it is getting. The statistics tend to vary, but most agree that the increase is somewhere in the 650 to 700% range over the last decade. This is not merely because of the re-constructive value of plastic surgery, which is not as large a portion of the business as one might be led to assume. Most of the people who go to the office of a plastic surgeon go there for cosmetic surgery, rather than re-constructive surgery. In recent times, there have been some indications that these visits are more deeply rooted in a variety of psychological issues and concerns than previously believed. Some have even come so far as to claim that there is a strong link between physical appearance (as granted by plastic surgery) and mental health.

The primary mental health concern linked to plastic surgery is body dismorphic disorder. The disorder results in a person being convinced that their appearance is unsatisfactory, thus making them willing to undergo procedures over and over again. This is a major concern, as there are still only vague statistics to show that plastic surgeons are rejecting people who show the signs of this mental health disorder. The problem is often characterized by extreme levels of anxiety and discontent with one's body, regardless of how many surgical procedures have been performed on it previously. In some cases, the procedures vary from visit to visit, which makes it difficult to diagnose without close observation. However, other patients with this problem may undergo the same form of surgery repeatedly.

Plastic surgery can and does have a number of positive side effects on a person's mental health. The primary benefit comes in the form of recovery after the stress and anxiety caused by severe physical trauma. Repairing the physical damage can often be a critical step in helping someone adjust to getting back to a normal life and routine after being burned or physically traumatized. Whether the surgery should come earlier or later during the counseling process can vary depending on the degree of damage. However, it is generally accepted that re-constructive procedures are a major part of the emotional healing process. For some patients of physical trauma, having a surgical procedure to repair or mask the damaged areas is a critical step to get things back to normal, particularly if the damage is to a regularly exposed area of the body.

Cosmetic procedures can also boost someone's self-esteem and help alleviate issues of social anxiety related to appearance. Some people can experience extreme social anxiety or status anxiety due to flaws in their physical appearance. It isn't uncommon for plastic surgeon's offices to have people coming in trying to have one area of their body fixed, usually because “it doesn't go with the rest of my body” or “I'm just not satisfied with how it looks,” among other possible reasons. In those cases, provided that the patient does not have extreme expectations, the result can often alleviate any anxiety they may have placed on themselves because of that “flawed” area.

There may be other psychological benefits to plastic surgery, as the connection between the two is still an open area for further study. The presence of an in-house psychologist in the offices of some plastic surgeons is a sign that these connections are being taken seriously, and that the field is starting to “mature,” in a way. Whether or not more mental health benefits and disorders are linked to plastic surgery is a matter of speculation, but for now, the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks.

Maintain normal cholesterol levels as if your life depended on it

Normal cholesterol levels are found in over half of Americans. Normal cholesterol levels are usually associated with a lower risk for cardiovascular disease, but not always. Normal cholesterol levels are also necessary in the formation of lipid rafts, such as caveolae and detergent-resistant membrane domains.

As a general rule the GOOD cholesterols are good for you and the BAD cholesterols are NOT good for you. If you are overweight, eat an unhealthy diet, or have a family history of high cholesterol, get your levels checked regularly. Reduce high blood pressure and cardiovascular risks by:Losing weight.

Risk factors associated with the influence of a persons blood ratio include; diet, age, weight, gender, genetics, diseases, and lifestyle. Ever since weight-loss programs gained optimal popularity in the market, the word cholesterol gained the negative connotation as the evil fattening wax from the food we eat.

People who are overweight have placed themselves in a higher risk category.

The location of the extra weight also impacts whether or not the blood ratio will increase. When the weight is centered around the abdominal area, as opposed to the legs or buttocks, an increased risk exists. Weight loss can also decrease blood cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar levels.

Weight loss also means that the volume of blood your heart must pump decreases – and less blood flowing through the arteries means less pressure on them. Overweight people tend to have higher cholesterol and triglyceride levels, while physical activity appears to improve them.

As a result, many people with normal cholesterol levels are not identified as having special risks. Healthy men and women with normal

cholesterol levels are still at risk for future heart attack if they have elevated levels of CRP. The best way to maintain healthy blood pressure is always through lifestyle, including diet and exercise.

You can’t control your genes or your age, but there are things you can do to prevent or reduce high blood pressure even if you have genes that might make you more likely to have it. Regular aerobic exercise—such as walking, running, bicycling, or swimming laps—can prevent and reduce high blood pressure.

Cooking with sesame oil in place of other edible oils appears to help reduce high blood pressure and lower the amount of medication needed to control hypertension, researchers reported today at the XVth Scientific Meeting of the Inter-American Society of Hypertension.

When fungi takes the fun away

Everybody loves the outdoors. Swimming, hiking in the woods, or simply being out in the sun can be so much fun. However, exposure to the environment also poses some risks especially on vulnerable skin exposed to damp and wet surfaces. Our skin is prone to illnesses and infections since this is the most external part of our whole body, always open for free roaming bacteria and viruses. It is very important for each person to take care of his own skin, since it would not look pleasant if there's something wrong with it. One thing a person must remember when taking care of his skin is to fight certain fungal infections that may arise due to exposure to damp environments.

Fungi are eukaryotic organisms that are closely structured like animals but are often associated with plant life. Yeast, mushroom, and molds are examples of fungi. Often harmless, the escalation of growth of certain fungi that has become problematic is often termed as fungal infection. This kind of infection does not need any major medical treatment because there are actually a number of anti-fungal preparations available over the counter. Some fungi actually lives in our body but rarely spreads below the skin and, for that reason, minor infections are usually easy to treat. These fungal infections can be found on different parts of our body, including our skin, nails, and hair. This particular infection is caused by certain “dermatophytes” --- a parasitic fungi affecting a person's skin, hair, and nails. There are three classifications of dermatophytes, namely: the Trichophyton (affecting our skin, hair and nails), Microsporum (causes ringworm epidemics in children), and Epidermophyton (fungi that grows on the outermost layer of the skin, causing tinea). These fungal infections often occue at the onset of puberty, except for tinea capitis, a fungal infection that is often seen on the hair of children.

Several types of fungal infections are commonly seen in different parts of our bodies. Tinea is a type of fungal infection that affects the hair, skin, or nails. If it is found in the skin, this usually begins as a small read area the size of a pea. As it grows, it eventually spreads out in a circle or ring. This infection affects different parts of the body including the scalp, arms, legs, and chest. Another type of fungal infection is commonly called the Athlete's Foot. This usually appears between the toes but can also affect the toenails and the bottom or the sides of the feet. Another infection called Jock Itch affects the groin and the upper thighs. One misconception about Jock Itch is that only men and boys get the infection when in truth, even women and girls can get this very irritating skin problem.

Even our nails are not exempt from “fungal invasion.” Candida is a yeast infection that affects the skin around the nails but other candida variants actually cause diaper rash and thrush-white patches found on babies' mouth. This type of infections is very similar to the yeast infection developed by women around their vagina.

Cure for fungal infections come in different shapes, forms, and sizes. There are different anti-fungal medications that can relieve the itchiness, redness, and slight pain caused by these fungal attacks. It depends on what particular infection a person might have, and from there they can know what kind of anti-fungal medication to get. Most of these medications are topical, meaning it can come in the form or creams or ointments. These medications are readily available at drugstores but it is always advisable to consult a doctor to know determine the best and most appropriate anti-fungal medication once should use.
